What
Is Erosion Control Mix (Slope Stabilizer) and Where Can I Get It? What: Erosion Control Mix (ECM) or Slope Stabilizer is a versatile product composed of material previously considered a waste product. Erosion Control Mix consists of partially composted bark, sand, gravel, stone, and wood fragments. This chunky, coarse material has endless applications for controlling erosion. It can also be used to revert lawn area to a vegetative buffer by acting as an "instant duff layer" (See picture below). Peruse the Fact Sheet developed by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection for detailed information about ECM. Where: Locating this relatively new and innovative product can be difficult in central Maine. However, contractors in the area are starting to use this product on construction sites in place of silt fence and may carry this product. Try contacting your local contractor and ask for Erosion Control Mix or Slope Stabilizer. Beware of landscaping bark mulch because it is not the same product and will not be as effective. The following is a list of contractors that responded to a product survey inquiring about the products they offer. This list is comprised of only the contractors that responded to the survey and may leave out some contractors/vendors so don't limit yourself to this list. Please contact Josh Platt if you find another source of this product to add to the list below.
