Natural Resources Conservation Service
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is an agency of the U.S.
Department of Agriculture. NRCS offers help to individuals, groups, towns and
other units of government to protect, develop and wisely use soil, water and
other natural resources. Our mission is to provide leadership and administer
programs to help people conserve, improve and sustain our resources and
environment.

NRCS Staff
Ron
Desrosiers is the District Conservationist (DC) for Kennebec County, he has
worked in the Augusta field office since April, 2001. Ron worked as the DC
in Walpole, NH and as a Soil Conservationist in Bangor, ME and LaCrosse,
WI. He is a Licensed Soil Scientist and has mapped soils in Alaska and in
Maine. Ron has an undergraduate degree in Plant and Soil Science and a

Peter
Abello - Soil Conservation Technician. Peter comes to the Kennebec NRCS
after working two years as the Education Coordinator/Technician at the
Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District. Prior to that Peter has held
several conservation related positions including Summit Steward, bird bander,
conservation volunteer leader and environmental educator. Among his credentials
is a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science with and emphasis in Wildlife
Management from Unity College in Maine. Peter was raised and currently lives in
the Sheepscot River Watershed, Lincoln County. peter.abello@me.usda.gov
Amanda
Burton has been hired to join the Kennebec NRCS office. She is a Soil
Conservationist.
Amanda
began working in
the Augusta NRCS office in early June. She started her NRCS career shortly
after graduating from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in
Environmental Science. She was hired as a Soil Conservationist under the
Career Intern Program in the Farmington Field Office. Most recently she worked
in the Oxford Field Office. Amanda is originally a “county girl” and grew up
in Houlton, Maine. .

Xandy
Brown (Alexander) has also been added to the NRCS office here at the Augusta
office. He has been working for the past couple seasons and has recently added
additional financial responsibilities to his workload. He has recently begun
working with specific Kennebec NRCS clients. He is part-time and is usually
here two or three days a week.
Xandy grew up here in Kennebec
County and works with his dad at the Longmeadows Farm in Benton.
